Vintage Mixer Visits Talisker On Main

Editor’s Note: I always love it when Becky Rosenthal contributes to the Skids Eats section of Park City Skids. Why? Because left to my own devices, I would do restaurant reviews of El Chubasco and Maxwells over and over again. When her reviews and photos grace our pages, it adds a little credibility. She’s kind of a big deal in the Utah Foodie Blogger world. Check out her thoughts after a recent visit “uptown.”

The private gated communities with second-home winter retreats, concierge services and members-only restaurants of Park City are out of reach to most of us ordinary locals, but recently I found a fun way to enjoy some mountain-town luxury right on Main Street.

Talisker on Main is open to the public, though it offers a high-end, elite atmosphere and dining experience. The evening started with a perfect peach bellini and only got better from there.

The photos of club members that line the walls of the dining rooms, the chess tables in the living room, the wall of wines and the open-air kitchen in the main dining area all work together to greet you and make sure your evening is complete. Should that not be enough, keep walking and you’ll find a small patio with a cozy fireplace and twinkle lights strung above the candle-lit tables and comfortable outdoor seating. That should do it.

Yes, the atmosphere welcomes you in for the evening. But it’s for nothing if the food doesn’t match. Talisker On Main delivers.

Here is a sample of their summer menu:

Appetizers
Roasted Corn Soup
Roasted Brussels Sprouts
Red Shrimp
Carrot and Zucchini Terrine

Entrees
Pan Roasted Lamb Loin
Buttermilk Fried Chicken Breast with greens and a honey biscuit
Sous Vide Duck Breast

Desserts
Aguacate Cheese Torte
Gelato Trio
Sorbetto Trio
Provencal Torte
Warm Chocolate Tart

Introducing Becky and High West Distillery

I want to take a moment and welcome Becky Rosenthal to the Skids crew. Becky has worked in the hospitality industry here in Park City for a few years, and has developed a cult following as a Foodie blogger (SLCFoodie on Twitter). Her blog, Vintage Mixer, is an eclectic place to catch up on recipes and reviews from hidden gems in Utah. Even though she resides in SLC, I asked her to lend her thoughts occasionally and contribute to the Skids Eats section here. Below is her review of a relatively new but well-hyped establishment in Park City, High West Distillery and Saloon.

Utah’s first distillery since the 1870’s opened its doors this month in Park City. Bringing back the swanky saloon atmosphere of the late 1800’s but with a touch of class and sophistication, this new hot spot is sure to be a place for locals and tourists to linger. Take a tour of the beautiful copper distillery and learn about the process of making fine liquor or sit at the bar and enjoy a high quality cocktail.

High West is already receiving accolades for their Rye Whisky and High Elevation Vodka. Sunset Magazine, National Geographic, as well as local and national newspapers, have written about this unique liquor boutique in the mountains of Park City, Utah.

This is a perfect spot to bring friends and family visiting for the holidays. Pick up a souvenir bottle of the best High West Whiskey after enjoying a Western Meal in the saloon. Their food menu changes daily but some offerings might include Fried Oysters, Parmesan Fried Chicken, Sweet Corn Chowder, Potatoes Gratin, and Spicy Grilled Shrimp. Some meats you might find on the menu: deer, buffalo, lobster, pork, cod, and lamb, often marinated in the fine whiskeys of the distillery.

Come for dinner, come for a cocktail, or come just to see Utah’s one and only distillery.

High West is located in the heart of lower Main Street, right across from the Town Lift. Here’s their address: 703 Park Ave, Park City, UT 84060
